Where it goes in a kitchen
Getting the size wrong is the commonest mistake in this category. Heights are approximate, but the constraint each surface imposes is not.
The islandabout 90cm
Walked around from every side, and the surface people put things down on. Low and round, or it will be moved within a week.
The windowsillabout 100cm
Above the sink in most kitchens, so it gets splashed and steamed. Choose pieces that wipe clean rather than ones that need dusting.
The open shelfabout 150cm
Seen from below and usually against a wall. Trailing greenery reads well; flowers lose their faces at this angle.
The top of the fridgeabout 180cm
The highest surface most people use, and the one furthest from close inspection. Height and silhouette matter, detail does not.
