Choosing well

What to look for in moss & terrarium

More than one green
Real moss is never a single flat colour. Look for two or three tones running through the mat, including some brown — it is the variation that stops it reading as felt.
Depth
A thin printed sheet cannot sit convincingly around the base of a plant. Thickness is what makes moss read as something growing rather than something laid down.
Whether it tears
A good mat pulls apart into irregular pieces, so it can be fitted around any vessel. A bonded sheet has to be cut, and a cut edge is visible from every angle.
