What to look for in pampas & grasses

Density of the plume
Sparse plumes look thin from every angle, and fullness is most of what you are paying for. Compare the width of the plume against the length of the stem rather than the stated height alone.
The shedding test
Run a hand down the plume. Real dried pampas sheds constantly, which is why many people move to a faux one. If the faux version sheds too, it has no advantage left.
A stem that bends
Pampas ships folded almost every time. The stem needs a wire core that bends back to straight without holding a crease, or the piece arrives permanently bent.
