A rose that has actually dried keeps its bud shape. The centre stays tight and wound, while the outer petals go papery, brown at the very edge and curl slightly back on themselves \u2014 the flower never opens further, it just loses colour from the outside in. Most “dried look” artificial roses get this backwards: they take a fully open rose mould and put a brown wash over it, which gives you a big flat flower in a sad colour rather than a dried one.<\/p>\n
These are moulded at the half-open stage, which is the only stage a dried rose ever holds. The fading is uneven \u2014 a bud might keep warm colour deep in the centre while the outer petals have gone to grey or straw, and no two in a bunch fade identically. The leaves are the other tell: dusty sage and grey-green with a matt surface, not the glossy bright green that gives away a cheap stem from across a room.<\/p>\n
Twelve buds arrive tied together, and that is how they are meant to be used \u2014 as mass rather than as a feature. One bunch fills a small jug or a wide tumbler on its own. Two or three bunches in different shades, mixed and re-tied, give you the layered, faded look that a single stem can never build.<\/p>\n
